I wanted to answer some of your questions here:
We switched to tin beacuse, sadly, as a small company, the cost to us for ordering cardboard boxes became, in the last 18months, 4 times the cost of using tin. We were concerned about this switch too but tin, we discovered, is infinitely recyclable (unlike carboard) and, we hope people think of the tins, in the same way you do a baked bean can, and put it in recycling. On testing, we also found that the tin preserves the bar better while in storage. (Because we use essential oils, they begin to 'off-gas' and if they are kept in the tin between production and use, the scent stays for longer.) That being said, we may move back to compostable cardboard, if we can get more orders flowing through. Its all about Minimum Order Quantities MOQ; a phrase that is so impcatful on a small business and when you are producing an artisan, hand poured product!
Please be assured that the bar's formulation is exactly the same as the previous version. Nothing has changed except we are using a slighly larger mould, so you get a slightly larger bar! You'll find that it you leave the bar out of the tin - in the fresh air - it will harden slightly. It is a blend of plant oils and so it is impacted by the warmth and humidity of the room it is in. I'm currently using one of our soap trays and I leave it on the edge on my bath. I take the 'ladder' section, with the bar on, in and out of the shower to ensure it dries out between uses. I can get 20+ hair washes per bar. If you lather it up in your hair, or in your hands and then apply, it will last a lot longer than rubbing the bar up and down your limbs.
